Solarexpo (Italy), SNEC PV Power Expo (China) and Solar Power International (USA) launch the GLOBAL SOLAR ALLIANCE (GSA)

A worldwide network of trade events and technical-scientific conferences, a dialogue platform for the international solar industry, a catalyst for the development of new and emerging markets for solar technologies.

Verona, Italy, May 7th 2012 - Solarexpo (Italy), SNEC PV Power Expo (China) and Solar Power International (USA) today reached an agreement for the creation of the Global Solar Alliance (GSA), a global network of leading exhibitions and technical-scientific conferences for the worldwide development of the solar industry and markets, spreading awareness and information among the professional community, public opinion and political decision makers.

Today’s agreement follows the first step made one year ago with the partnership between Solarexpo and SNEC.

We started conceiving an alliance among premiere PV exhibitions and conferences at a worldwide scale back to 2008, when the globalisation of the PV industry and markets was not so marked”, said Luca Zingale, Ceo and Scientific Director of SOLAREXPO. “Today a truly global network is actually in place, and it will strive to establish an effective dialogue platform to level the playing field for upkeeping the growth of the most mature solar markets, from Europe to USA to China. At the same time, through a targeted enlarged membership as well as new initiatives at regional scale, it will act as a powerful catalyst for the development of new and emerging markets for solar technologies”.

“As organizer of SNEC PV POWER EXPO, we are very glad to be member of Global Solar Alliance”, said Mi Yue, Executive Vice Chairman Shanghai New Energy Industry Association (SNEIA). “Each member will benefit from the Alliance in improving exhibition services and in better organizing exhibitors, visitors and conference attendees through sharing market information in Asia, Europe, America and other regions. We could also lead PV companies at world leading solar exhibitions in each region to expand their business”.

GSA members also stress the importance of their cooperation across three continents for the promotion of solar energy as a solution for environmental issues. “We are very excited about founding the Global Solar Alliance with our two partners, SolarExpo and SNEC. Solar energy is a global business, and global collaboration is the key to continued growth of the industry,” said David Sit, board member of Solar Energy Trade Shows (SETS), the organization that produces Solar Power International and other U.S. solar trade shows. “Solar energy has a big role to play in solving the world’s energy problems and we are especially proud that as a nonprofit, GSA will use its resources to promote solar worldwide.”

The alliance has the support of the Asia Photovoltaic Industry Association (APVIA) and U.S. Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), which consider GSA an important step towards the rationalization of the sector for a better use of resources.
Absolutely, the PV industry is the essential sector in the renewable energy industry in the world. Right now, so many PV-related expos are being managed in Europe, America, Asia and Africa as well”, said Tom Wu, APVIA’s Secretary General. “Countless exhibitors and visitors interested in the PV sector have to make plans and budgets to attend the best expos for them, but unfortunately some of them are disappointed. I believe it would be of great help to exhibitors and visitors of PV sector exhibitions around the world if GSA is able to achieve its goals in the future.”

"The Solar Energy Industries Association is honored to be a part of this groundbreaking new effort,” commented John Smirnow, Vice President of Trade & Competitiveness for SEIA. “As one of the owners of the largest solar trade shows in North America, Solar Power International, we strive to provide our 1,000 member companies and their representatives with the best possible educational, business development, and networking experience possible. Under the new Global Solar Alliance, I am proud that we will now be closely tied to the top trade shows in Europe and Asia as well.”

The alliance was officially presented in Verona, Italy, in the context of the 4th ITALIAN PV SUMMIT, a high-level international photovoltaic conference, where senior executives are discussing key issues on the global PV industry agenda. The Summit takes place in the two days preceding the opening of the 13th edition of Solarexpo, the international exhibition and conference on renewable energy and distributed generation technologies.
